“Success is not final,
failure is not fatal:
it is the courage to continue that counts.”
-Winston Churchill

Over the last 8 years, I have had extensive experience working with individuals with varying diagnoses in inpatient and outpatient settings. I have a solid foundation in conflict management, risk assessment, and crisis intervention/prevention. The approaches that I often use in psychotherapy are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy and harm reduction techniques. I also enjoy helping with stress management, anger management, and relationship difficulties from a humanistic lens. Regardless of the therapeutic approach that I use, building a collaborative relationship with my clients is always the priority. I strive to assist each client in finding more authentic connections and self-love.

My doctoral dissertation investigated the maintenance of long-term recovery from drugs and/or alcohol in sexual minority adults. It was also important to me to volunteer at Stepping Stone of San Diego, Inc., which is a substance use rehabilitation facility that specializes in treating the LGBT+ community. Additionally, while working at R.J. Donovan State Prison, I worked within the LGBTI Support Unit, assisted the head of the LGBTI Support Unit in obtaining information for gender reassignment surgery assessments, and facilitated gender identity and sexual minority groups. Working with and advocating for minority populations is a passion of mine, especially in the world of substance misuse.

While completing my internship at API, I created a psycho-educational Multicultural Mindfulness group, which provided a safe environment for clients to process how their culture significantly impacts various aspects of their mental health, including the perception of health and illness, treatment-seeking behaviors, and coping styles. These experiences have granted me the ability to utilize LGBT+ affirming therapy and culture affirming therapy to validate, understand, and empathize with various cultures and intersectionalities. My curriculum for that group continues to be utilized and has spread to other outpatient programs within the facility.

I earned a Doctorate Degree in Clinical Psychology and a Master’s Degree from Alliant International University / CSPP, San Diego, CA. I am a Registered Psychological Associate (PSB94026207) and am completing my post-doctoral hours under the supervision of Dr. Julia Rosengren.
